Stop Mexican Teacher Repression

Protest, Wednesday, August 17
Tri-National Solidarity Action with Mexican and Brazilian Teachers
Stop Repression
of Mexican Teachers
No More Ayotzinapas! No More Nochixtláns!
For more than 90 days, Mexican teachers of the CNTE (National Coordinating Committee of Education Workers) have been on strike against the “education reform” ordered by imperialist financial agencies and imposed by President Enrique Peña Nieto. This is the same murderous government responsible for the murder/kidnapping of 43 teachers college students at Ayotzinapa in 2014. On June 19, 1,000 federal and state police attacked a teachers blockade in Nochixtlán, Oaxaca, killing at least eleven people. Now the Mexican Employers Federation is baying for blood, demanding that the police use force to end the strike, which the government is promising to do.
In the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, the teachers union SEPE-RJ just won important gains by holding fast for over five months on strike. In the middle of the Olympics the Rio teachers have called a protest August 17 in solidarity with their Mexican sisters and brothers. The same day striking teachers of Section 22 in Oaxaca will join them, as we will in New York. Mexican teachers need our support. Their fight is our fight!
